MTU – Manual Tipping Unit

MTU – Manual Tipping Unit:
A Safe, Precise and Efficient Tipping Solution for Roll Handlers and Drum Lifts

Is lifting and turning heavy drums, rolls and boxes taking a toll on your team?

Does the process of getting these bulky loads into the right position – whether for emptying, loading, or placing on a mandrel – take longer than it should, leading to unnecessary downtime or, even worse, potential safety risks?

If you answered “yes” to any of these, perhaps it’s time to consider introducing drum lifts or roll handlers with tipping mechanisms into your work processes.

Our electric lifting machines combined with a manual tipping unit (MTU) offer a simple yet powerful solution for improving both the safety and efficiency of material handling in your facility. The manual tipping unit consists of a self-locking gear system inside a safety box that you activate by turning a handle. Very simple and easy.

The box with the manual tipping unit is mounted on a tool arm, which is connected to a pair of grippers for holding the load. On the other end of the tool arm, you’ll find a clamping device (either an electric or manual linear clamp), which squeezes the grippers together to securely grasp the load.

With all of these components working together, you can electrically lift your drum, barrel, roll, or box using a remote and then tip it by manually turning a handle – helping your team get the job done faster, without the strain.

Manually Turning Heavy Objects Is no Walk in the Park … in Fact, It’s More Likely to Land You a Trip to the Doctor’s Office

Lifting things straight up and down might seem simple enough, but adding the element of turning? That’s a whole different story. Lifting heavy items manually can already be a health risk, especially if the load is too heavy or not lifted correctly. But when you add turning to the mix, it becomes a surefire way to invite back injuries.

That’s where our box, roll, and drum lifters come in. They offer a safe, ergonomic lifting solution that handles both tasks – lifting AND turning – with minimal effort from the operator. All it takes is the push of a button and a gentle turn of your arm.

The lifter itself takes care of the vertical lift, powered electrically for efficiency and ease. The linear clamp securely holds the load in place, and the tipping unit performs the forward turning motion.

Need the Electric or Manual Version of Tipping Unit? Find out Here!

At 2Lift, we offer two versions of the tipping unit: a manual version (which we’re talking about here) and an electric one, which you can read more about here. The manual tipping unit is perfect for lighter loads or situations where you need the precision and tactile control that only a manual process can provide.

For heavier loads, or when space around the lifter is tight and you can’t stand next to the load to turn a handle, the electric version is the way to go.

The same logic applies when choosing between the manual and electric linear clamps.

Whether you’re lifting light or heavy loads, we’ve got a solution that fits your needs.

How Exactly Does the Manual Tipping Unit Work?

On the outside, the MTU features a box with a wheel and handle attached. Inside the box (or cover), you’ll find a self-locking worm gear. This gear is the mechanism that drives the forward tipping motion, powered by the manual turning of the handle.

Depending on the shape and type of load you’re handling, the ETU can be customized with various lifting arms and grippers to suit your specific needs.
