ETU – Electric Tipping Unit

ETU – Electric Tipping Unit:
Ergonomic Roll and Drum Lifting Equipment for Tipping Heavy Loads Forward

Having a hard time lifting and emptying heavy drums or barrels?
Struggling to lift and turn rolls to get them onto a mandrel?
Our roll and drum lifting equipment, the Electric Tipping Unit (ETU), makes these awkward, back-breaking tasks way easier – just push a button, and the job is done. Easy. Safe. Ergonomic.
The ETU is basically a motorized tilting system tucked safely inside a sturdy metal box. This box is mounted on a tool arm, which connects to a set of grippers that securely hold the load. On the other end, the tool arm is attached to a clamping device – usually an electric linear clamp.
This clamp acts as the link between the lifter and the ETU, making the ETU an ‘end effector‘ – basically, the part of the lifting system that is in direct contact with the load.

The ETU’s Job Is to Tip Heavy Drums, Barrels, and Rolls – Easily and Effortlessly!
When you need to empty a drum, barrel, or any other container, simply lifting it up and down will not get the job done. You will need more flexibility – something that lets you tilt and tip the load with ease. In other words, you need a lifting tool that can actually manipulate the load.
This is where the electric tipping unit (ETU) comes into the picture. The ETU is an electrical manipulator designed to tip your load forward in a smooth and controlled manner. However, as already mentioned, the ETU cannot work alone. It needs to cooperate with e.g. a clamp (a squeezing device) in order to hold onto the load. Most often, we pair the ETU with an electric linear clamp (ELC) for maximum efficiency.
(If you need to handle lighter loads, we might recommend a manual setup instead, like the manual tipping unit (MTU) combined with a manual linear clamp (MLC). An excellent alternative when you don’t need the extra power of an electric system.)
The ETU is the perfect choice if you need to:
– Lift a container, like a barrel or drum, to empty its contents. The most suitable clamp for very heavy loads is the electric linear clamp (ELC).
– Handle a roll and move it into a new position, like placing it on a mandrel. Again, the electric linear clamp is the ideal tool to pair with the electric tipping unit.

How Exactly Does the Electric Tipping Unit Work?

Inside the ETU cover (box), there’s a self-locking worm gear that handles the tipping action. The tipping movement gets its power from an electric motor, which is also tucked away inside the box.
Depending on the type of load you need to handle, the ETU can be fitted with different lifting arms and grippers. The ETU can tip loads with a maximum tipping speed of 1.5 RPM (rounds per minute).
The ETU is controlled with a remote, making load handling very easy and allowing you to control the load from a certain distance. The remote lets you manage both the up-and-down movement from the lifter and the tipping motion from the ETU.
Turning Capacity
The maximum tipping torque of the ETU is 450 Nm. However, the ETU is electrically limited based on the specific load type and weight it was designed to handle. As a general rule, loads should always be rotated around their center of mass whenever possible.
Features
- Fully electrically powered
- Rugged construction for industrial use. With its all-stainless steel construction, the ETU is built to last and for use in demanding industrial environments.
- Available in hygienic design for use in cleanrooms and the food/beverage industry.
